AIDS in Angola HIV/AIDS is not as prevalent in Angola as in other sub-Saharan nations like Botswana, South Africa, or Mozambique. While HIV has infected over 30% of some Sub-Saharan populations, statistics show that less than 4% of Angolans are infected with the AIDS virus. This might look great on paper, but the reality of it is disturbing. Due to civil war, there has not been a thorough HIV/AIDS study done in Angola – just a lot of guesswork. The AIDS infection rate is abnormally low in Angola largely because people are fleeing, not entering. Both war and the AIDS epidemic has claimed the lives of millions and has reduced the average life expectancy to 39 years in Angola. |
